"Chicago, Chicago, my kind of town!"

Let me tell you, this city is great. I've just come back from a trip over there to see family and it was a trip I would just love to do again. The city itself is actually the third largest in the whole of the USA, with a population in the region of 2.8 million. You always think of Chicago as a big city from all the coverage it gets, but I for one never thought of it as so big until I came over.

My relatives live out in the suburbs, and when you include these areas into the area's population then we are looking at around 10 million people here!! That is a lot of people. There are lots of different cultures represented in Chicago, which does make for a great choice of restaurants. Whatever type of food you fancy can be found here, and it isn't all the expensive restaurants either. There are some really good little restaurants and cafes around the city that will knock your socks off with the quality of the food. The standard of food is also very good in the Chicago hotels, I know because I tried a couple of them. One place that you have to try is Hot Doug's. Chicago is renowned for its sausages - so I learnt when I was there - and Hot Doug's sells only sausages, as the name may suggest. However there is every possible type you could imagine, from bacon to ostrich and venison to vegetarian. There are some wacky side dishes too - the Guinness mustard being one of my favourites.

Having eaten all this lovely food it is good to know that there are plenty of places to enjoy sports here. The city is on the edge of Lake Michigan for starters, so the many water sports that people enjoy can all be found there. That isn't really my thing, so instead I headed off on a bike, and there are some great trails there. Spectator sports are also massive in Chicago. More sausages yes, but some brilliant sport to watch too. I was a gridiron fan in the 80's and remember the 1985 Superbowl well, with Walter Payton and William "the refrigerator" Perry standing out for the Chicago Bears in a pretty one sided match. Today's side aren't in that league you have to say - well not many teams can have a 15-1 season - but going to a football game was still amazing.

I also enjoy a game of golf, and Chicago has plenty to offer the casual and ardent golfer alike. I use Callaway clubs, the Big Bertha driver being an inspiration when you're stood on the first tee praying for a good shot.
